Maui Onion Festival
The world-famous Kula Onion exists in a taste category all its own. Also known as the Maui Sweet Onion – these bulbs are just that – sweet, crunchy, and delicious. And the Maui Onion Festival is the perfect place to sample the many wonderful recipes this little vegetable has inspired.

Held at Lahaina’s Whaler’s Village, the all-day festival has attracted thousands of participants since it first began back in 1990. Attractions include chef demonstrations, live entertainment, games and prizes, a beer garden, and a produce market bursting with locally grown fruits and vegetables.
One highlight of the day is a raw onion-eating contest. There is a contest for adults and another for keiki (children). These are Kula onions of course - don’t try it with regular onions!
