www.kbhmaui.com
On November 14, 2009, the employees of Kaanapali Beach Hotel made a commitment to make a single-hull Hawaiian sailing canoe, in observance of the Season of Makahiki. This project is of great significance to a West Maui family. A few years ago, a young Maui boy asked his father to build a canoe from a tree on their property in the valley. Last year, Kaanapali Beach Hotel humbly asked the family for a tree to build a canoe. A prophecy come true, the family granted permission to take a tree. Their only wish was that the canoe be named after their young son, Ka'ilila'au, who died at the age of 11, six years ago. Join us as we commemorate the closing of Makahiki Season and the launching of Ka'ilila'au, 9am - 4pm. Protocol ceremony, maiden launch and birthing into the ocean, all day entertainment with an Arts & Crafts Fair.
